Centre for the History of Seafarers at War

ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre received funds in 2016 to establish a Centre for the History of Seafarers at War and to establish/run the new War Sailor Register. The Centre will also research, document and convey this important piece of our history.

On January 19th 2016, the new War Sailor register (www.krigsseilerregisteret.no) was launched. This national register will have all Norwegian men and women sailed in the Norwegian Merchant Fleet between 1939 and 1945, upon finishing. It will also include Norwegians in Norwegian or Allied Navy as well as those who sailed on Allied and neutral merchant ship between 1939 and 1945. International sailors who sailed for Nortraship and the Norwegian Home fleet will also be registered.
